I finished the book! (And no need to send milk tab jewelry; the acknowledgment was cool enough! 😆)
I wish I could remain in blissful ignorance and pretend I never read that chapter on the lies about plastic. Sigh. One of the first things I did afterwards is tell my daughter I’d rather we not do glow sticks at her birthday party, but we could make lemonade with tonic water which will glow under a black light instead. And I have a giant list of steps to take to reduce our own garbage.
Oh I had one suggestion for you! Viori makes a shampoo and conditioner bar which smells amazing and comes wrapped in paper! (Beautifully folded paper too so I’ve been known to use it as wrapping later.) And I totally just rub it on my head. 😆
Thank you and your family for going through this so we all can learn from your hard work. ❤️
Hi Angela!! (For those who haven’t read the acknowledgements in the book, Angela was the VERY FIRST PERSON to guess what our project was going to be before it began- ie: a Year of No Garbage. She gets eternal props for this!!) And I am right there with you- why does the news about plastic have to be SO bad? BUT I am stubbornly optimistic that once people get this information, it will be the beginning of the change that needs to happen.
I completely feel for the birthday party conversation with your daughter- we had a similar haggling over decorations for my daughter’s high school graduation party in June. There were compromises. Plus- WHO KNEW you could do that with tonic water and lemonade and a black light?? Where has this fact been all my life?
And thank you for this suggestion- I am always up for trying a new Zero Waste product- AND for being a dedicated, thoughtful reader. I couldn’t do what I do without you.
Hello! I loved your book, Year of No Garbage. It had just enough humor and snarkiness to make a depressing subject entertaining. Thanks for writing this.
