21 AliveNews TV Interviews Year of No Garbage

Got 8 minutes? Check out This awesome interview with my friend, the illustrious John Wagner which aired Friday on 21AliveNews in Indiana! Special thanks to the amazing Three Rivers Natural Grocery in Fort Wayne for hosting us and letting us gawk at their plastic.

Talking Trash on TV… and Everywhere!

Okay, it’s cable access TV. But still. I got to wear a microphone. In the first episode I sit down to talk No Garbage with my friend Andrew McKeever. Rewatching it, I realize we cover A LOT of ground in this 30 minute studio interview!

In the second, ten minute episode, we head over to the actual transfer station to see the sometimes messy results when the rubber meets the road. I was amazed to realize how much the rules can vary between different transfer stations— you’re saying they accept PLASTIC BAGS filled with SHREDDED PAPER? I’m gonna need a minute, people. — This is one of the significant sources of recycling confusion- lack of consistent, effective guidelines.

PS: for the record, I don’t agree with the statements the transfer station manager makes about needing to find more places for old plastic to go- grinding up old tires or styrofoam to make ANYTHING is going to be a super toxin in whatever environment it ends up in. Period.

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL! I have a very busy EARTH MONTH April coming up and you never know – perhaps I’ll be in found your neighborhood rooting through the wishcycling!

Here are some upcoming dates I’ll be speaking:

APRIL 8: ZOOM LECTURE for the National Council of Jewish Women, Michigan. It’s free and you can register here.

APRIL 13: SARATOGA NEW YORK– I’ll be a panelist as part of the Saratoga Sustainability Fair.

APRIL 26: WILLIAMSTOWN MASS– I’ll be talking at the Williams Bookstore.

APRIL 30: LEXINGTON, MASS– I’ll be speaking at the Cary Library in partnership with LexZero Waste. (More details coming soon.)

MAY 2: TENAFLY, NEW JERSEY– I’ll be doing a talk at the Garden Club of Englewood (More details coming soon.)

Would your group like me to speak- in person or over Zoom- about plastics, recycling, and My Garbage Journey?? Drop me a note in the comments!
